3DS XL announced by Nintendo

During Nintendo’s press conferences tonight, the 3DS XL was announced. Details after the jump.

Just two weeks after Shigeru Miyamoto said that he was satisfied with the 3DS’ specs, Nintendo has announced that the 3DS XL will be coming to stores. The handheld will feature screen sizes 90% larger than the original, longer battery life, and a 4GB memory card.

However, an AC adapter used to charge the handheld’s battery will not be included; the XL will be compatible with the original 3DS’ adapter, and can be bought in stores separately. In addition to this, a second circle pad will not be built into the new handheld, which might come as a surprise to many fans, and suggests that dual analog games will never be an emphasis for the 3DS.

The 3DS XL will come to stores on August 19th for $199.99.
