Sony’s URLs hint at Vita release of Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale

According to TheSixthAxis, Sony has registered URLs that have confirmed a release of Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale for the Playstation Vita.

The brawling game, which shares some features with Super Smash Bros, is set to feature characters who have graced Playstation consoles at some point in history, including Kratos of the God of War franchise and Sweet Tooth of the Twisted Metal franchise. Although previously confirmed only for the PS3, the URLs, which include battleroyalethegamevita.com, clearly point to a potential Vita release of the brawler video game. With E3 quickly approaching, we imagine that Sony’s confirmation will follow at the conference.

No exact release date of the PS3 incarnation of the game has been finalized, but it is expected to release in the second half of 2012. Though not yet confirmed, we expect the Vita version’s release to coincide with the release of the PS3 version.

Sounds like an interesting idea, but hardly original. There will need to be considerably more AAA games released before I’ll even contemplate buying a Vita.

The lackluster sales of the Vita agree with you. Even if this game does become critically acclaimed, the fact that it’s also being released on PS3 kind of takes away from the allure of buying a Vita to enjoy it – why spill cash on a handheld when you can enjoy the game on a console with a much better game library? The connectivity between games would have to be magnificent for this to work out for the best, I imagine.

      • Karl Weller says:

The Vitas sales so far have been disappointing for Sony, but the 3ds was too when initially released. But a hand held GTA for instance, would grossly increase their revenue, and would certainly tempt me, as well as a price reduction. The technology is magnificent, the price really isn’t.
